The 7th ESP Conference took place in San José, Costa Rica, between the 08th and 12th of September. It was a scientific gathering of the highest level, which discussed the analysis of the community-based management, especially in Costa Rica.
To illustrate empirically this sort of work, the EU funded FP7 Projects CiVi.Net, COBRA, EcoAdapt, CombioServe and COMET-LA developed a one-day joint session on "Community-based Ecosystem Management: lessons learnt". Local community representatives of the five projects attended this session in an innovative way to link science to society. The session worked as a platform for experience exchange and mutual learning among the five projects' representatives. Additionally, it welcomed stakeholders, practitioners and researchers interested in community-based management approaches and analyzed the transferability of solutions at the local level in Latin America.
COMET-LA was represented by Manuel Riascos, local authority of the Consejo Comunitario Alto y Medio Dagua and the Project Coordinator. COMET-LA's chaired two panels: "Stakeholder experiences of community-based management approaches and collaborating with researchers" and "Linking research to practice", and took an active participation on the other panels. The results of the session where gathered in an innovative workshop where participants with the help of journalists were asked to deliver press releases adapted to different audiences (Go to press releases).
